E, the frontman for one of the great unsung bands of the last decade, eels, wants you to know about the band's new greatest hits/rarities collection called Useless Trinkets.
How does he want you to find out? By buying an entire second of ad time during this year's Super Bowl. With the ad price being something like $3 million for a 30 second spot, he figures a 1 second spot should run 'em about $100,000. And what will be in the 1 second spot. E saying "U" (being the first letter of the new disc). Go capitalism!
And just to remind us of how great the eels are, here's "Last Stop: This Town" from the classic Electro-Shock Blues.
{Hat tip to NME for this bit.}

Seems a little steep. Is the letter U still going for $250 on Wheel of Fortune nowadays?

Wow, what an incredible waste of money. Nobody put people who've already been forewarned about it will even know what it means.

Totally off topic, but I wasn't really bothered by the American Apparel ads on here as everyone else was, until I saw the one up on this post. Good grief, it looks like two clones are about to, uhm, scissor.

Is this for real? I'm no advertising exec, but I thought you had to buy in something like 30-second chunks. Or 15-second chunks.
Anyone else see that they referred to the Superbowl as "a match?" How quaint!
