Tonight in Seattle:

Imaginary Mixtape {August 2010}: Lost at the festival, where could they be?

Imaginary Mixtape Podcast

Lost at the festival, where could they be?
At any ole place where the wi-fi is free.

It's true, our favorite part of the summer is the avalanche of festival possibilities. There's little better in the world than dozens of your new favorite bands playing one after the other on a sunny day in an exotic locale.  This edition of the Imaginary Mixtape we share tracks from some of the cutest bands playing the Athens Popfest {August 10-14 in Athens, GA} and take a consoling look back at the amazing Indietracks festival line up {takes place each year at the end of July in the UK - fingers crossed next year we can make the trip?}. But, we start off the podcast looking at some awesome August events in Seattle.  Get ready to mark up your calendars!

You can listen to a stream or download the MP3 version of the podcast on the imaginary bandcamp page. Bandcamp prohibits tracks longer than 25 minutes {I think it's some regulation against jam bands?}, so the podcast is split into three sections for those that like to listen via the bandcamp stream.

PART 1: Preview of some Seattle shows and events in August

PART 2: Athens Popfest preview

PART 3: Looking back at the UK festival, Indietracks

If you are the type that likes to listen to podcasts in itunes, download the .m4a file here {one single file with fancy chapters even!} and then open it in your itunes {Thanks to Jigsaw Records for hosting it!}.

Menomena - "Five Little Rooms" from MINES
This brand new album released on Barsuk is just as amazing as you'd expect it to be. Join us at the aforementioned Imaginary Crafty Listening Party on August 8, 2010 at Neptune Coffee to hear the whole thing end to end {and finish up that lingering craft project you've had stowed away}.  You can also see them at the Showbox at the Market on September 10, 2010.

Nathaniel Rateliff - "Once in a Great While" from In Memory of Loss
He's playing the Triple Door on August 3, 2010 with Pearly Gate Music and Battleme.

Pearly Gate Music - "Bad Nostalgia" from Pearly Gate Music
Pearly Gate Music music is the project of Zach Tillman as well as being the title of name of the self-titled debut album. If you missed it above, you can see PGM on August 3, 2010 at the Triple Door.

Standard Fare - "Fifteen" from The Noyelle Beat
This Sheffield, South Yorkshire UK has really captured our hearts in 2010 {a lot}. They don't have any plans to come to Seattle anytime soon, but I heard they rocked the Indietracks festival and will surely do so at the Athens Popfest.

Sourpatch - "Funny Inside" from a ltd. ed 7"
Catch them on Thursday {August 12, 2010} at the Athens Popfest.  Perhaps you can get the limited edition 7" with this song on it from one of the band members after the show.

This song features Kimya Dawson on vocals {rad!!!} and this song is going to be released on vinyl at the Athens Popfest.

Madeline - "Rain Fire And Brimstone" from White Flag
See Madeline at the Athens Popfest on Friday {August 13, 2010} as she shares the stage with Defiance, Ohio, Nana Grizol, and Your Heart Breaks -- one of the most amazing afternoon bills of all time.

Afternoon Naps - "Carl Wilson" from the Carl Wilson 7"

Keith John Adams - "imaginary song" from a bonus tracks compilation
This song about Three Imaginary Girls is from a double bonus cd made available to a certain number of folks that pre-ordered his last album, Unclever. If you didn't get it then, you can still hear all the songs on KJA's website.

Onward Chariots - "Seven Miles Away" from I'm So Good at Shining
They played Indietracks and will be at the Athens Popfest, but call Brooklyn and Queens home.

Allo Darlin' - "Kiss Your Lips" from Allo Darlin
As I've exclaimed before, this is one of my favorite songs of the year! With this album releasing in the US on October 5, 2010, fingers are crossed they'll make their way to Seattle sometime soon.

By the way, no matter what you hear {from folks like me), the Indietracks festival has been going strong since 2007 in Derbyshire countryside.

Foxes! - "Albania" from Who Killed Rob?
I haven't been to Brighton, South United Kingdom but that's where the band Foxes! is from.

The Loves - "I My She Love You" from Technicolour
This song is from the Loves second LP (released in 2007), but this London band has sinced released a third album, called "Three" is out on Fortuna Pop.

Veronica Falls recently released a double A-side 7” with this song - just in time for their July Indietracks festival show.
