Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Man som hatar kvinnor) @The Egyptian: Before they whip the American version of this out, you should see this one – because I’m 100% positive it will be superior in every way. I’m not usually into mysteries, but the story of hardcore journalist Mikael Blomkvist and punk-rock computer hacker Lisbeth Salander investigating a murder with several surprising (and creepy) turns is way too awesome not to appreciate. I’m speaking only from having read Stieg Larsson's book, but I intend to get myself out to the theater this weekend to see the film.
My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done @Northwest Film Forum: Another murder, but not-so-much mystery, directed by Werner Herzog. I covered it pretty thoroughly in my review, but this is an interesting piece of work and should definitely be checked out if you love film. (And just FYI: the trailer makes it seem much less comedic than it comes across on screen)
The Shining @Central Cinema: YES, yes, and YES! I can’t really think of anything better than going to CC, ordering a bottle of wine, and watching Jack Nicholson disintegrate into madness. Everything about this 1980 Kubrick masterpiece demands to be seen on the big screen: from the eeriness of Danny riding his Big Wheel along the never-ending halls, to the river of blood flowing out of the elevator doors. Love, love, LOVE this movie!
