Tonight in Seattle:

Wolverines 2010: Red Dawn remake in progress

Wolverines!It seems like nothing from my childhood is sacred anymore – but I’ll give the people making a remake of 1984’s Red Dawn this: they’ve got a lot of guts.

I have no idea how a movie based on 80s Cold War paranoia is going to make sense NOW – other than that they’ve apparently added Chinese soldiers into the equation (Chinese + Russians invading America – what the WHAT?), but I’m curious. No I mean, really, really curious.

Replacing C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen are Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas (the new Transformers babe), Chris Hensworth and Josh Peck – plus Connor Cruise (son of Tom & Nicole, who made his film debut in Seven Pounds) playing the role of Hutcherson’s best friend.

This definitely requires a re-watch or two of the original (ah, beloved nostalgia) – and I’ve no doubt it also requires a few beers before ticket purchasing.

Will anyone else actually go see this movie? I don’t know. But I can’t wait to see how they market this thing - and I'm hoping they at least include the iconic "Wolverines!" battle cry.

{Red Dawn is in pre-production for a forecasted September 2010 release date}

have you ever watched the show psych? i swear the writer of that show and this blog are the same person.
Amie ... I saw this movie with "Repo Man" as a double feature when they both came out. I love it, for its crude wish-fulfillment scenario, and its unintentional hilarity (not in that order). Yes, I have no idea how they're going to "update" it now that so much has changed. Like you, part of me wishes they wouldn't try, and part of me is curious to find out how they're going to do it ...
Evan - I uh. I'm not sure how to take that... Chris, Repo Man! Another classic. I am so confused about this Red Dawn thing that I fear it's going to become an obsession.
I am boycotting the new so-called "Karate Kid" remake because it's pure blasphemy......and I don't think I need to elaborate on that. However, I am anxious to see this new Red Dawn remake, giving them the benefit of the doubt. It seems like they are trying to make a big effort to stay true to the original, hopefully only changing certian aspects to make it fit into today's world. It is Impossible that any remake could even come close to the original Red Dawn, but hopefully they atleast make a respectable sequel the pays tribute and homeage the the original and if nothing else give the youth of today the same rush, excitement, sense of patriotism that the Swayze and the boys gave "us" back when we were kids.
Wolverine4life! I love it. Fortunately, we may never have to see how this thing turns out, as it's been shelved and will probably never see the light of day.
